چکیده

High pressure waterjets are now entering use on an increasing scale for primary rock excavation in quarries. In order to assess the parameters required for any such rock cutting operation a series of experiments need to be carried out in which the critical operational parameters are identified. This paper seeks to identify such a standard procedure with an explanation with the reasons for choice with the different stages undertaken. As an example case the design of a system for optimizing the cutting of granite is described. The paper discussed the results in light of the way in which the waterjets penetrate the granite. Improvements in performance of the system with the addition of abrasive are discussed. The need for a redesign of the system is then further discussed.

The Impact of Waterjets on Human Flesh

Despite the fact that waterjets have become relatively extensively used for industrial cleaning, and are beginning to find increasing use in mining and civil excavation, little is reported on the risks associated with the use of this new tool to the operator. Regulations on the use of waterjets do not indicate an awareness of the relatively low pressures necessary to inject fluid under the skin...

Effect of Composite Material on Damping Capacity Improvement of Cutting Tool in Machining Operation Using Taguchi Approach

Chatter vibrations, occurring during cutting process, cause vibration between the cutting tool and workpiece, which deteriorates surface roughness and reduces tool life. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of cutting parameters and tool construction on surface roughness and vibration in turning of aluminum alloy AA2024. A new design of cutting tool is proposed, which is fi...
